FVF POSEIDON

FVF Poseidon

$6000

Arabian / Friesian cross

Dark Bay Gelding, foal date July 14 2016

Registered 1/2 Arabian (HAHR*1A378461)

~15.3 HH

He is up to date on shots, teeth and Coggins (May 23, 2025) and is an easy keeper. He tends to stay a bit on the heavier side, so I don't grain him. No injuries or medical issues to call out. He's always been barefoot.

Very sweet disposition, tends to be lazy in the arena, but on trails, he is go-go-go. Stands well for farrier, vet, etc. He's been ridden both English and Western, but mainly Western the last few years (as that's what I ride).  I've had him since 2020 and previous owner has had him since 2016. His dam was a black Friesian, sire was a painted Arabian.

For arena riding, I'd say that an advanced beginner rider would be fine on him. He has an extended cantor which can take a bit to get used to.  For trail riding, I would recommend an Intermediate rider.  He like to trot, be in front, and he pays attention to everything around him. He is not a dead head.

Due to financial circumstances, I have to reduce my herd, so making the hard decision to find a new home. Very few vices, can be head shy, especially walking through a low door or the like. When trail riding, he definitely pays attention to everything around him, but I've taken him through water, over bridges, etc and he handles it like a champ.

I've always kept him in a mixed pasture with stall for bad weather and he does great. I only blanket him if it is super cold out.

He's a fancier horse than I am a rider, I think he would make an amazing hunter or dressage horse for someone as he has stunning, floaty, and uphill movement.

Additional information based on questions I've been asked.

  • I ride him 2 handed with split reins.  He's been taught leg pressure (which I am learning!). But, he does not neck rein
  • He may know things like side passing and such, he's spent 5+ months at trainers over his life. But, I don't know how to side pass, so no promises there
  • If he is on grass (pasture) 24x7, he'll definitely get chubby, but he has never foundered or had any health issues.
  • I am not consistent in my riding. I may have weeks where I ride him 4-5 times and then be out of town for 3-4 weeks.  He does not regress, in fact, I've not ridden him for 3 weeks and then taken him to a local show or trail ride and he does fine.  That being said, he would do well with a regular riding program. He's a quick learner.
  • No health or confirmation issues that I am aware of that would prevent him from jumping.
  • Very happy to have a PPE (pre purchase exam) on him, something I would always recommend!!
